My server died again. Looks like the MTTF of a server in a non-climate-controlled shed in the middle of nowhere in rural Japan is ~12-18 months give or take. Useful data point.
That would make things worse. It's not a temperature problem, it's a corrosion and gunk problem (at least on the first server). The constant airflow is what causes it.

Maybe it’s just a gimmick but I wonder how long a machine submerged in mineral oil would work?

It's been done before. As long as contaminants stay out of the oil, why not? But you'd want to seal it and use an external heat exchanger.
