Wow. Although that was different 10-15 years ago, at least with better controllers (I had IPC controllers, the company was later bought ny Adaptec).
Yeah, modern CPUs have plenty of fancy SIMD instructions that can accelerate RAID5 parity calculation. The CPU usage is basically negligible. > [ 0.660593] raid6: using algorithm avx512x4 gen() 26882 MB/s 26GB/s parity calculation on a single CPU core.

Oh, forgot how some raid5 is. Doing software for raid6 would be more complex.

Actually that benchmark was for raid6, I misread. So yeah, still stupidly fast. raid5 is so simple it's basically free.
