The funny thing about the laser is you've got the same problem; the laser is fine, but now it's the *camera* doing the sampling (since the laser beam is still just a single point). On an analog scope phosphor persistence helps a bit, though.

And then rolling shutter comes into play with consumer cameras. The laser is now moving forward and backward in time based on its vertical position.
