Which one are you referring to? PROMPT_SP? Or is it one of the autoloads?
I think it's PROMPT_SP and it should be on by default. It prints a reverse video '%' as a flag to let you know that the last line didn't end in a line feed, then adds one before the prompt. Use zsh. It's way better than bash.

Ah yes, I saw that behaviour during my uses of zsh over the last 10–15 years (can't even remember when I switched from pdksh to zsh exactly). Just wanted to be certain I had that feature turned on. Thanks for confirming!

You can. Check PROMPT_EOL_MARK. I recommend looking through premade zsh configs and picking something you like; there's a lot of hidden gems you'll only discover from someone else using them (unless you read the docs cover to cover). I ended up copying mine from a friend.
