      Honestly, most personal threat mitigations are just fads. E.g. I don't get the whole "tape over camera" thing. If you've pwned my computer enough to remote control my camera, taking pictures of me in unwelcome states of undress is the least of my worries.

          True, I think some variations of it has happened but it's not common. Might be a case where ads or a hacked website where you already have trust does it
