There are some deceptive bits and some hidden things, but other than some touch-ups for artistic purposes I don't think video editing/CGI was involved much, and most of the effects shown really are or could be a result of drawing the conductive ink traces.

E.g. some/all of the batteries are dummies, the voltage is way too low for what they're doing, but if you look closely you can see how things are powered from the rear. And some things that look connected aren't if you look closely.

Which I think is the strongest proof that, really, it's all real. After all, if you were just going to fake it, why go through the trouble of using all these subtle but visible tricks to make the circuits carefully functional?

The fading makes sense. I bet that conductive ink decreases in resistance as it dries.
