If it's technical work, there's a huge advantage to English purely due to momentum. English is a terrible language, but there's a massive advantage to doing anything technical in English because it's the lingua franca of technology.

And this is where etymology is silly: "English is the lingua franca of technology": "English is the French language of technology". English will seriously hunt down any phrase it likes and steal it. At gunpoint.

i'd just like to point out that lingua franca is, iirc, latin. so its a latin phrase that we use in english which originated in discussion of how french was becoming the language of the sciences. its a clusterfuck of centerpiece languages.
