You can't do power saving on an esp in the way you want to. You should use 2 separate cores, the esp and an avr or similar that brings up the esp

Well, yes but it will eat a lot of current, that's why I said it wasn't optimal to use it. The best way I think is via btle transmitters. I know they aren't like the WiFi, but they do not eat current like the esp
1mA isn't "a lot of current". I don't need this to run on batteries, I just need it to not warm up 10°C above ambient.
