...the Roomba is apparently really user-servicable??? The screws stay in the backplate, the motor modules are completely removable... I love this????pic.twitter.com/RKpvhSWl9F

Spec for 500 series is here: https://www.irobot.lv/uploaded_files/File/iRobot_Roomba_500_Open_Interface_Spec.pdf … And they sell you the cable: http://store.irobot.com/default/parts-and-accessories/create-accessories/communication-cable-for-create-2/4466502.html … They also sell a version specifically meant for hacking: https://www.irobot.com/About-iRobot/STEM/Create-2.aspx … Also mine had this sticker on the package.pic.twitter.com/AAAxXPxAxQ
Oh you have one of the serial ones, nice. I did not expect irobot to be such a decent company tbh? I'm so used to things being deliberately unserviceable and this is such a breath of fresh air
Yeah, it's a rare sight. Honestly I'm very happy with mine, even when I had a nominally non-user-serviceable failure it was pretty easy to diagnose and fix (charging diode on the mobo was leaking reverse current, making it think it was charging itself and preventing normal use).
