Okay @freenodestaff, we all know a bunch of morons are spamming everyone via privmsg. Why haven't they been blocked yet? The most trivial content filter would work here. If you do not have such a capability, why not? It's 2018. Configurable spam filters are not optional.

Same should be done for "mass pings" using more than just a handful of names should never be necessary. Also rate limiting should be done on both freenode and quakenet.

Back then (~10 years ago) I was oper on a rather big Italian IRC network and message filtering *used sparingly* was extremely effective against serial spammers. But we also got A LOT of flak from users because "you are monitoring all our messages, you creeps!" *sigh*

hell, split the network in two and route between the sides with a spam filter. Too many duplicate msgs => killed
