I always get annoyed when people refer to playback stalls as "buffering" "why would it be buffering?" because it has to load the video, players _always_ buffer data, you're asking why it's _stalling_
I want to say that many years ago some popular player (Flash-based?) actually displayed a "buffering..." text during those stalls, and that's where it came from, but I can't remember specifically which player that was.

This. Even though I know how buffering works, as soon as it stalls, my brain goes straight to "damnit, it's buffering!"
