Well, let's see. The Bank of America tower in Manhattan has 2M ft² of floor space. Office buildings are typically 20kWh/ft²/yr, which comes out to 4.5MW for the whole building. That's about 1/1000th of bitcoin. 4 minutes of that is 300kWh, which is like a Bitcoin transaction.

In other words, using Bitcoin to make one transaction is equivalent to using all the energy consumed by the entirety of the Bank of America Manhattan tower for 4 minutes. Just you, nobody else, for those 4 minutes.
