It fucking does. Y'all don't give @davejmurphy enough credit, as far as I can tell devkitppc is the last maintained open source ppc toolchain left and it was for console hacking memes.https://twitter.com/hedgeberg/status/1012226738267545600 …

Wait does this mean devKitPro can compile for those old Macs (old Macs ran PPC up until 2004 iirc)? I used to have two in the attic, but my mom forced me to throw them out two months ago. :(

Fuck yeah it does. I'm p sure it can be built from source if you need to patch things. I might need to do that myself thanks to the fact that this processor is a weird one but like

We mostly kept them around as backup devices, just in case. They've mostly been gathering dust. That said it's certainly... Unfortunate to have to toss them out, there's quite a lot of childhood memories of me using the MacFan (dutch apple magazine) to install software on them.

Debian supported those until Debian Jessie (Stretch dropped ppc32 support); I have a debian install on my PPC Mac Mini. I'm sure you can still run fully up to date Gentoo if you want.

I don't think devkitPPC has anything to do with this though; it's a cross-compiler, and it's not intended for Mac OS software (which uses totally different formats etc) and for Linux you'd want another toolchain. I can't think of any use case where it would be useful for old Macs

You could entertain yourself writing baremetal code for old Macs :p

You know that's the kind of thing I'd be prone to doing, too :p I made this CTF level recently though: https://marcan.st/transf/InfiniteLoop.sit …
