Unfortunately, not free of cheaters. You have to prove you have an original copy of the game, but it's impossible to build a system to prove the actual game running on the system is unmodified (once the system is compromised).

(and you're not really proving you have an _original copy_, so much that you have the signature blob _from_ a particular original copy; essentially a serial number with online-only validation and bans if the same serial shows up in 2 places at once)
