People are complaining because oh noes google might own everything without looking at the bigger picture
People are complaining because Google just half-ass-pulled-out of a ridiculously evil government AI program and suddenly everything Google does must be the epitome of evil. They're forgetting that just because Google is somtimes evil doesn't mean other companies aren't 10x worse.
I agree, maybe time to reevaluate the stance on Google. As much as I dislike their monopoly tendencies, tax evasion world wide, and machine learning AI for military drones to target via face recognition, I also have old colleagues and friends still working for them.
I used to work there. There are some seriously good people working there. Big Coporate will inevitably veer off towards evil (or just plain stupid) every now and then, but they've also done a lot of good for the world. Their internal culture is still much better than most BigCos.
