Sure, I'm sure if it finds a 16:9 mode it'll use it. The silly thing is that if it doesn't it seemingly decides it needs to squish the entire framebuffer (in software, presumably) on the arbitrary assumption that the user's monitor is 16:9 and configured in stretch mode.

Like, someone deliberately wrote some code to output an incorrect, wrong image on the assumption that the user's monitor is also incorrectly configured and they'll cancel out.

4:3 is correct for 4:3 modes. Here they're spitting out anamorphic 16:9 video on a 4:3 mode, which is a huge WTF.

The users with their 16:9 screens configured in stretch mode don't care. Those with them in aspect stretch mode *do* care. And now the latter will get an ugly display.

Yup, the majority of monitors are like this, if they let you set the aspect at all.

And if you get particularly and if you get extra unlucky, they add overscan for no reason on the HDMI port.
