Many places take cards, you just have to have the right kind of card. And if you don't have one of those then a Travelex CashPassport is what you want. @byuu_san
Brand new bills also aren't necessary lol, just don't scrunch them up in your pocket.

You can never count on cards (of any kind) being accepted anywhere except big/touristy shops, so best carry cash to be safe. But yeah, nobody cares about brand new bills. Sharply creased or worn ones may not work on vending machines but that's about it.

Yeah, I thought you meant yen. I know nothing about exchanging cash; I've never done that. When I was visiting it was always ATMs for me. 7-11 ATMs will take most Visa/MasterCard.
