Nothing's wrong with cabs, don't really know what this guy is talking about. For short trips, sometimes they're even cheaper than catching the train.

I may not have travelled as much, but I've lived half of my life in Australia and the other half in Tokyo, and let me tell you: Tokyo's taxis are the cheaper of the two. Hell, a taxi in Tokyo is even cheaper than an Uber in Sydney.

You can't really compare Tokyo with your average city. Cabs aren't that bad, but usually you're better off taking the train unless you need to get somewhere NOW and there's no direct line. Or it's past 1AM.

It's more about availability. Public transport is so awesome in Tokyo there's just no reason not to use it. And of course it's significantly cheaper than a taxi in most cases.
