Reading the whole thread, it just seem like false flaging perhaps for an audience that wouldn't believe the experts anyway. The fact that he does not post an "Oops, thanks for the clarification guys" tweet says it all really.
History suggests he has a serious paranoia issue. It's not a false flag operation, he actually believes this stuff. Unfortunately it's extremely hard to get someone like that to actually change their mind. The fact he's (to some extent) respected in the field makes it dangerous.
