Oh hey I found a bug, let me file a bug report. Oh, it already exists. Opened 9 years ago. With 27 comments. And two dupes. *sigh* Here's a diagnosis of the problem. And here's a patch to fix it, because clearly if I don't nobody else will.https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/381677 …

Here is how it works in linux ecosystem: Upsream -> Downstream(s) -> Users If you have trouble reaching upstream, you go to downstream (ubuntu/debian/redhat/yourdistro bugzilla) and post it there. In case of ubuntu/redhat they have paid developers who will patch it 1/2

... and push on upstream developers. Package maintainers do all the filtering (bad reports) and since they know/work with upstream developers they can push on upstream to do the right thing. Alternatively they ship patches downstream to users.

I know how it works, this is nowhere near my first contribution. I have several patches in the kernel and a lot of random open source projects ;-)

I was talking in general, since upstream doesn't respond to your bugs, you should go to whoever is maintaining the package at redhat, those guys will fix for everybody one way or the other.

I don't actually use any commercial distros myself so it seems a little bit unfair to dump random bugs on Red Hat devs when I don't even use Red Hat.

I understand where you are coming from, but this is literally in their job description and they get it fixed for everyones benefit. You can try your own distro package maintainers, I suggested redhat because they have full-time employees that bridge users and upstream.

My distro is understaffed; these days I submit packages and PRs myself directly to help out.
