      Here is how it works in linux ecosystem: Upsream -> Downstream(s) -> Users If you have trouble reaching upstream, you go to downstream (ubuntu/debian/redhat/yourdistro bugzilla) and post it there. In case of ubuntu/redhat they have paid developers who will patch it 1/2

      ... and push on upstream developers. Package maintainers do all the filtering (bad reports) and since they know/work with upstream developers they can push on upstream to do the right thing. Alternatively they ship patches downstream to users.

      I know how it works, this is nowhere near my first contribution. I have several patches in the kernel and a lot of random open source projects ;-)
