      This just strikes me as terribly inefficient. Surely in 9 years someone more qualified than me with actual familiarity with the codebase could've looked at the bug and fixed it, right? I mean I spent most of the time just learning about Inkscape's object model and Cairo.

      ``someone more qualified than me,, means one person from a pool of roughly 4-6 (varies across time, not always the same people), looking at one old bug in a pool of 4000, and few of them has any knowledge of cairo rendering stuff.

      I didn't go straight to MR because honestly I have no idea if the fix is the right approach. It works for me, but I want someone who knows the codebase to tell me if it makes any sense or not :-)

      As for the bugs, that sounds like an unhealthy amount of open bugs for a project with such a small team. I'm not blaming the developers, it's just an unfortunate situation.
