This just strikes me as terribly inefficient. Surely in 9 years someone more qualified than me with actual familiarity with the codebase could've looked at the bug and fixed it, right? I mean I spent most of the time just learning about Inkscape's object model and Cairo.
To be clear here, I'm by no means dissing @inkscape and its developers! We all do our best to work on the projects we maintain. I'm just thinking it'd be more efficient to have more specialized devs than people randomly contributing fixes.
Then again, I tend to get bored of stuff and move on to something else... perhaps that's a significant factor in the "random fixes". Maybe it's more efficient after all for people who get bored easily to jump around rather than attempt to stick to one thing.
