The Americans With Disabilities Act does not currently have specific, testable criteria to measure web accessibility. If a vendor or company promises you that they can make your site "ADA-compliant," be skeptical. Ask what standards they use to measure "compliance."

Most people think the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, but to them I say, that's just GIS. Sometimes on the third try, your geoprocessing tool just inexplicably works.

"Stigma reduction and public awareness must occur at the societal level, instead of placing the responsibility on the individual with a facial difference."

"The Elephant in the Room: Explaining Facial Difference" // I really enjoyed these articles. Having language for your identity is empowering, but yeah, de rigueur disclosures about the way your face looks are not.

An organization that says it cares about diversity, equity, and inclusion must include disability and accessibility in its diversity plans. If an organization uses hashtags like #diversity, #equity, or #inclusion but doesn't use alt text, its diversity efforts come off as hollow.

2023 reminder that a lot of wheelchair users can WALK!
i don’t know how people are still ignorant of this fact and at the point it feels wilful
we are not faking if you see us use a wheelchair one day and not the next. it’s not that hard to grasp! 👩🦽

One thing I really dislike is when people attack the appearance of someone they don't like or they claim is bad.
It basically paints all people with undesirable physical traits as bad people. And justifies harming them solely based on their appearance. It's cruel and ableist.

my mom was so relaxed and trusted me so much that I couldn't really rebel even when I tried lol

If you were a generally very well-behaved and square teenager, what’s the most rebellious thing you did?

Memes can indeed be made to be accessible. In this blog post, Adrian Roselli explains how he used CSS and HTML to recreate common and popular memes. He includes a CodePen example for each one.

Here's a shiny new example on the Mapbox GL JS docs for creating an "ant path" animation by sequentially updating `line-dasharray`. Take a look! 👀 🐜🐜🐜 docs.mapbox.com/mapbox-gl-js/e

Yall do know that since I am the first Deaf contestant on #TheCircleNetflix that there is going to be a huge number of Deaf people watching right? Why would I play the game with just a keyboard? I’m using ASL for my community. And Paris is helping YOU understand. Simple

flashing back to when i was an english ed major for three semesters and got told in ed block that my clothes were professional and modest enough but that, basically, i might want to dress uglier to help myself not get mistaken for a student 😭
Quote Tweet
literally where do feminine young professionals in their mid/late 20s even shop for clothes. every store i go in to feels way too young, waayyyyyy too old, and/or way too expensive for a grad student budget
