The solution has been known for a long time but suppressed from public discussion by landed interests. Raising the tax rate on land would end the profitability of speculation, resulting in the cheapest possible housing for everyone.

This is true, but expanding housing development and construction would mean that there would be a lot more housing-related investments that would create a windfall for investors (*just not necessarily homeowners*).

Not sure if it would be more of a windfall than it is currently. Selling price would go down, but number of units would go up. Development cost impact is unclear to me. Land bank value probably goes down, but labor cost goes up etc.
