I am a PhD Candidate in wrapping up my thesis this April. I work on and in pancreatic cancer. I co-founded a website that shares latest in with non-specialists. More on that here:

When I told my father I was leaving academics, he responded ‘Well...where are you going?’, as if that was all he knew of success. Been processing recently how my parents (& their generation) raised us-Black children-in survival mode... 1/

Spent the afternoon making Bengali shrimp curry. It was, to be honest, more satisfying than dreaming up about-to-fail experiments in the lab.

There is a renewed interest in an old chemotherapy drug cisplatin for the treatment of aggressive triple-negative breast cancer. Why? Tushar Date writes.

  6. Yes. This week has been rough, and so today, I am working from the comfort of home, while drinking tea, listening to music, and even that is helpful for me. I am still getting a lot done!

We have discriminatory barriers in our society that affects vulnerable communities- our minorities, women, Dalits, LGBTQ, etc. But never ever I had to think that someone’s gender, social class, or religion practically excludes their electability to be the leader of the nation.

Indian democracy has its flaws. But since our independence in 1947 we had multiple Muslim, Sikh, female presidents and prime ministers. We could refer to our first president as Dr. president. One of the most revered presidents in India across party lines was a Muslim engineer.

Networking can be stressful to begin, especially for introverted academics. But we should meet people who are different than us, nurture connections, and grow our network. Cards from some people I met over PhD- glad that I went beyond my comfort zone!

I am playing an Indie Instrumental playlist on to accompany my writing, and it is basically all Indian classical fusion! 🤣

“Things that people cannot control, is not their fault. No one has a right… to mock it and make fun of it,” says Joe Biden on his lifelong struggle with stuttering. “We just have to reach out a little more for people… We don’t do it enough. We have to heal this country.”

If you love innate immunity, read this 1989 paper. It lays out the conceptual framework within which all of us operate, over three decades later. Thank you, Charlie.

As the Senate vote takes place, let's remember the same amount of people live in Los Angeles as these 7 rural, mostly white, Republican states. They have 14 Senators while LA shares 2 with the rest of California. Some Americans are more equal than others.

I want you to know that whenever a celeb comes out as queer and people accuse them of lying because they've only seen them in 'straight' relationships, it LITERALLY makes me feel unwell. It reminds me of what kept me closeted and what still keeps me from coming out at times.

An excellent article why it is harder for international scholars to become a faculty. We go through so much just because of immigration issues. ‘I regret not raising immigration issues when negotiating my first faculty position | Science | AAAS.’

I am not a religious person, but I sincerely appreciate Sufi spirituality- their traditions are highly pluralistic and unify ideas from all major faiths of the Indian subcontinent. Besides, Sufi music is ethereal and takes me to a happy place.

I shared a tiny room where 4 twin beds can barely squeeze in with 3 other students for 2 years during my UG in India. I put up with it, because I never had a personal room in childhood & when you grow up in a middle class family in India, you just have a bigger tolerance 🤣
