...on the other hand, if every adult in the UK wrote an *extra* email every day, begging the government to switch its policy from fossil fuels to nuclear, that could make a real difference.

What I’d do, regarding email, is charge 1 cent per email sent. Would wipe out spammers, reduce email traffic N-fold, and put the money towards carbon offsets of data centers.
