The founders created three safeguards against a demagogue president who would abuse the powers of his office. First was the electoral college. Second was impeachment and removal. Both of those have now failed. The sole remaining protection is presidential election every 4 years.

The Republican-controlled Senate chose to put party over country today by blocking firsthand witnesses and relevant documents at Trump’s impeachment trial. You can’t have a fair trial without witnesses.
