aye, ever since OSX and the switch to intel they are way more like windows than they once were. i think a lot of people still think of their 90’s versions and file incompatibilities and don’t give them a fair shake as a result. glad you’re playing with ‘em, they’re neat imho

I used to be fascinated at the kernel memory mapping getting swapped in at syscall time (IIRC) and how I thought it was inefficient compared to Win/Nix. Meltdown has leveled that field.

I rather compare it to Linux when operated via the ssh-Keyhole - while on Linux I don't miss any features, MacOS is bitching about which (installed!) compiler it should use, or that it can't open a popup that the debugger is disallowed for this user - Since the UI is to intuitive

they both owe a lot of their design to Mach (and they both dropped the microkernel architecture), blended with BSD for macOS, and with VMS for Windows. they're surprisingly similar in kernel mode too!
