This is terrible, victim blaming reporting. These were children who were hit by a truck while trying to navigate a very badly designed intersection with no pedestrian infrastructure whatsoever. There's something very wrong when simply existing outside a car requires hi vis gear.

You're right. Just a few days ago, , one of the members of the EU Parliament was quoted saying, "We cannot have our children dressed like road workers as a permanent solution to this problem". Something needs to be done. The days of the car's dictatorship on our roads are over.

No, no, you don’t get to say, “while wearing dark clothing.” FFS two children are dead. We failed them. By “we” I mean: drivers, taxpayers, police, DOTs, traffic engineers. We let this happen. These kids weren’t “asking for it” when they put their jeans on this morning.

I think we can add the media to that list.

Megan, as the mom of a child killed by a driver nine years ago I can tell you the color of the boys' clothing is not relevant and mentioning it here only adds pain and confusion to those most affected by the tragedy.

Megan. Please consider how your bias as a car user is at play here. - Clothing is not a crime. - There's NOWHERE ELSE TO WALK on that street. Just because police say it, doesn't mean you have to repeat it. Please consider deleting this harmful tweet. Thx

Making the clothing choices of these boys somehow equal to the legal requirement to stay at the scene of a collision is an abhorrent case of false equivalency. Please consider how this narrative blames the victims while trying to paint the motorist as somehow altruistic.

Automobile crashes are the #1 cause of death for children 1-19. Automobile/motorists are killing tens of thousands and injuring millions a year, regardless of what they’re wearing. That’s the story.

this graphic is fantastic. Great way to relate risk mitigation to street design.
