News! For over 10 years, I've blogged about writing, YA, and queer stuff on my website. I've also had a newsletter, mainly to share info about my books, but more recently to share essays. Now my newsletter is now moving to a subscription model.

I’ve been overwhelmed by the thoughtful responses and personal reflections that this inspired. If you connected with the essay, please consider subscribing to my newsletter to support my ability to write more stuff like this! ❤️

It also makes me wonder about all those YA fantasies about queens (queens, not princesses) that are so popular these days.

I’ve never really been into watching Disney’s new princess films but after reading ’s article on Frozen and Disney’s investment in storytelling about the nation-state (it’s more complicated than that) I kinda want to!

Still thinking about this...B&N is doing this in partnership with Penguin Random House, which owns the rights to practically everything. They could’ve just repackaged a bunch of books by black authors instead, promoted it as a Black History Month thing. WHY

Fated Mates (a romance podcast that is great — I’ve listened to it before!) has a new episode out today in which they talk about f/f romance, related to my post from yesterday 👇🏽

"If misogyny is a system that upholds male dominance, I can see how stories about women are perceived as less significant than stories about men" Fantastic article that asks a lot of questions about why f/f stories tend to be overlooked, even by the queer community.

I have this horrible sinking feeling that Pete’s gonna win Iowa, Bernie’s gonna win NH, and Biden’s gonna win SC, and then we’ll still be in the same damn place we’re in now but it’ll be FOREVER

In this post I updated my data on the Stonewall Book Awards for 2020. My conclusions? It's complicated, but all my life I've seen the way queer women are erased or dismissed.

New Lo & Behold: The Invisible Lesbian in Young Adult Fiction — Why is f/f less popular than m/m? Why don't YA books about queer girls get as much buzz or win as many awards? Some thoughts on the culture of misogyny that erases queer girls.
