well the question is whether one's conscience is more valuable than the safety of another or their life. To preserve the comfort of your own conscience while causing another to suffer? What can we call that other than narcissistic vanity?

returning to the categorical imperative, one must weigh the consequence if all men engaged in the practice and what it's effect would be. And if every man told a lie to protect his family it would have no net evil effect on the world and this proof is easy.
