seems to be saying "group selection is not a useful concept if you already know the low-level precises (I don't so I'm not sure what they're called)" I sense that a lot of framework disagreements are like this.

OTOH when a theoretician denies the validity of a folk concept that they could instead, with a little effort, formalise, doesn't that usually turn out to be an asshole move.
