Another reminder: the first measles vaccine (deployed in 1963) was great, but the second measles vaccine (deployed in 1968) was even better and is still in use today. The #COVID19 #vaccines we have now are great; hard work can help us make improvements as needed moving forward.

It's honestly such an amazing feat of modern medicine, and it gives me hope for COVID-19 too!

And that is why I can't wait for the vaccine for my child under 12.

This isn't the same. The Covid vaccine doesn't work as well against Delta variant.

This
also we eradicated measles in the us initially because it was before people were antivax and knew the danger out the disease. Those few cases afterwards are in mostly unvaccinated and come from countries where childhood vaccination of measles isn't common.

We were able to get measles controlled enough that it didn't evolve a vaccine evading variant. But because people are idiots we already got the delta and who knows what else causing so many covid breakthrough cases
-
Delta is not very immune evasive. We are having an (absolute) high number of breakthroughs because 1) there are lots of vaccinated people now and 2) TONS of virus going around. But compared to the unvaccinated?pic.twitter.com/9NiRdMMJMu
