It was written by Rogers and Hammerstein composition, and was representational of the defiance of Austrian patriotism in the face of Nazi annexation during WW2. Is that what you mean? I hope you don’t assume it was supposed to be a Nazi anthem. That would be wrong.

Enlighten everyone Maggie! It’s important! The song is from The Sound of Music, a movie about the Von Trap family. Edelweiss represents freedom. German youth in the Rhineland & southwest Germany were involved in a resistance movement known as the Edelweiss, during the Nazi regime

Do you? It was sung at the end of "Sound of Music" to protest the Anschluss. Now, if they were playing "Tomorrow Belongs to Me," you might have a point.
