She (big Mets fan but not much sports media) asked who he was and I said “oh mom, you’re going to find out”. And I got to spend that summer focused and n him and this team I love instead of my own broken body. I would have gotten through without him, but I’m glad I didn’t have to

On a personal note, by 2013 I had been trying and failing to get pregnant for two years and spent the whole season undergoing surgeries and painful, frustrating treatments, sometimes daily. I recovered from the first surgery during ST and watched a Harvey start with my mom.

Instead, he risked his arm and his career to get the team to the World Series and put up a show for the ages in what was really the last game the real Matt Harvey would ever pitch. He was fun, he was charismatic, he loved NYC, and goddamn he sure could pitch.

It’s hard to overstate how transformative Matt Harvey was to the Mets. He was an explosive end to a stretch when fans had very little excitement and even less winning. He had the best TJ comeback season of all time and was told by doctors to shut it down.

if a team ever leads by at least 30 points in an nba game they should put a second basketball on the floor and see what happens. this one’s done, let’s donate it to science

It seems like a big failure of our society that people think it's okay to argue in public that murdering a person on the subway is okay. People who say such things should be shunned from polite society, and people should fear social sanction to say them out loud.

Apropos of nothing, I just feel the need to point out that the conditions at Rikers Island are so bad that putting an enemy combatant there would violate the Geneva Conventions

Here’s what New York Governor Kathy Hochul told Spectrum NY1 after Jordan Neely was killed on the subway. “There’s consequences for behavior.” It appears she meant the *victim’s* behavior.

Crime on the subway really is out of control, violent psychopaths are strangling homeless people to death in broad daylight.

Did a basic yoga stretch and broke a bone in my foot so weird that the podiatrist had only seen it in runners and my PT had never seen it before at all.

For all of the flak that season 2 of Friday Night Lights is rightfully taking re: writers strike, I think it’s important that everyone know it bounced back big time in season 3 and then season 4/5 are incredible, telling a different and harder story.
