On a personal note, by 2013 I had been trying and failing to get pregnant for two years and spent the whole season undergoing surgeries and painful, frustrating treatments, sometimes daily. I recovered from the first surgery during ST and watched a Harvey start with my mom.

Instead, he risked his arm and his career to get the team to the World Series and put up a show for the ages in what was really the last game the real Matt Harvey would ever pitch. He was fun, he was charismatic, he loved NYC, and goddamn he sure could pitch.

It’s hard to overstate how transformative Matt Harvey was to the Mets. He was an explosive end to a stretch when fans had very little excitement and even less winning. He had the best TJ comeback season of all time and was told by doctors to shut it down.

For all of the flak that season 2 of Friday Night Lights is rightfully taking re: writers strike, I think it’s important that everyone know it bounced back big time in season 3 and then season 4/5 are incredible, telling a different and harder story.
