(invited, ) is presenting work from her dissertation (finalized summer '19) which examined the relationship between waves and sea ice. As ice increases, waves are dampened and turbulence is decreased. Steeper waves limits the size of pancake ice growth.

Here is my go-to recipe for a climate-friendly thanksgiving meal: Step 1) Talk to your family about the scientific necessity of radical, rapid large-scale goverment action on climate change Step 2) eat whatever the fuck you want. this is not an individual-scale problem

It's great to see coverage on the -led CODA project happening now in the Chukchi Sea. It's hard to say what a "normal" autumn looks like in this part of the Arctic anymore, but there will certainly be more waves

Sea ice extent surrounding Alaska today, compared with the same date the previous four years. Except for perhaps Kotzebue Sound, ice extent is in worse shape in 2019.

Happy 10-year anniversary to SWIFT buoys! Dreamed up by Jim Thomson to measure waves and turbulence in a wave-following reference frame, with 25 built (so far!) by Alex de Klerk and Joe Talbert. They’ve been deployed on 39+ projects, around the world, contributing to 46+ papers!
