you have to do anything funky with the nand to pull this off? looks like fun.

Nah, he definitely got ahold of the SNES Mini firmware. Look at this menu and those borders.

I mean yes and no. Distributing the firmware itself would be kinda sketchy. Or even an update that merges the two would be sketchy.
