I kind of feel bad for the kid. The claims in the post are total nonsense (and some are directly contradicted by the ‘evidence’). Instead of walking away with a few life lessons he has made it way worse on himself.

It's a bit shit that HRT only offers 28 days holiday inc bank holidays in the UK (standard in UK in finance is 25 days + bank holidays i.e. 33 days) but also this blog post screams "I was and will continue to be an awful person to work with"

Also a ton of the stuff he says about non-competes is completely wrong/made up? They are v standard in the UK, normally unpaid, but also regularly challenged and struck down by courts.

Unpaid non-competes, it’s like a third world country!

Ehhh it's just terminology. You have a notice period which is paid and is your real non-compete (e.g. six months is standard, and you would normally be placed on gardening leave). Most companies tag on an unpaid non-compete period after it but they are difficult to enforce.

Why would any employee agree to the unpaid part though? Even unenforceable that’s a huge pain.

Well, the company is free not to hire you if you won't agree to it. But yes, it's ultimately negotiable. Some people have enough clout to negotiate IP ownership, guaranteed payment of accumulated bonus, zero non-compete etc. Some don't.

Yes. At least in NYC, what usually ends up happening is those who insist on removing that clause will get it removed (easy give since it’s not enforceable). Those who don’t prob don’t know any better or are poor negotiators.

what's the point in arguing to remove it if it's not enforceable anyway
