why do funding rates on the perps go aggressively negative at times on some of these? seems counter intuitive

Incentives to hold spot can be pretty high (eg staking AXS for yield, or holding BNB for fee discounts) and everyone wants to short the perp as a hedge.

Corollary is that if you can find a way to be long AXS or BNB via perps you can pick up a pretty amazing carry.
