Hmm, a quick sim looks decent from 2018-2020, but I think you'd still be underwater from trying to short it starting in late 2020.

I'm definitely not good at timing anything! My point is that it moves nicely inversely to the market and seems to pick highs and lows

Have I used it? Yes. Less happy to use it now because a 20% move against me is worth a lot more than it was in 2018
