Here’s what I think (pls weigh in): You can change the Mona Lisa, but ≠ market ✨valuing✨ it like the Mona Lisa. NFTs are > the jpeg. They are a function of community+access+narrative+FOMO - & is reliant on supply/demand that doesn’t come through simple copy-paste https://t.co/5nffkcVQIi

I think there’s another thing here people are totally forgetting in their rush to discount NFTs: classical art is not the only art and it is not the only art worth “ridiculous” valuations. Art Basel banana anyone?

TradArt can't be replicated exactly though. Even copies will have small variations which isn't true of digital. The focus on uniqueness of the art is misplaced in NFTs, the value is really the signature

I have bad news for you about the concept of “prints”

Prints will still have subtle variations as a result of being physical copies and they can't as easily be produced in high quality. Value in both is obviously subjective but there is a sense of uniqueness in physical art that doesn't exist in digital. That's the beauty of digital

I’m not really getting where you’re coming from, I guess. Prints are done digitally all the time and are perfect recreations. People are capable of making fakes so good they fool everyone. The generative nature of some nft projects is plenty of uniqueness, what do you mean?

Disagree that a print can ever be a perfect replication of a physical artwork, whereas you can exactly replicate a digital artwork. So the exact configuration of pixels can’t be what is valuable. What’s valuable is the signature, the provenance.

Which isn’t something you can uncouple from said art, because that hash is always inherently unique to that price of art. They have value together, not separated out.

Interesting question, presumably you *could* make NFT collections without any associated image, just a list of attributes — I guess in the same way that you can make an invisible sculpture and sell it.

They have 100% already done that and the collection has traded shittons of ETH

Presumably, you could sell ranks within a game as NFTs. Hypothetically, this could already be sold as a service on third party sites via ‘play to earn’ character-sharing scheme And I’m only saying, boosting ranks pays better than pro gaming on the lowest level of competition
