There is ~2.5K athletes from those countries competing verse the USA’s 600 person team….
Only the top three candidates in each event get medals, having more than three athletes per event is not that big an advantage.

it’s a non-zero number. I think you can look at top 3 qualifiers in “team europe”, re run the results and see how many fewer medals they win (and the us gets a few more). More I think about it, the margin, esp in golds, is such that team Europe still comes out well ahead.
