Most Olympic medals are in oddball sports that few people play, therefore population is less of a factor than it seems.
I mean the USA is famous for literally inventing new sports and calling the top national competition "the world series" so this is a weird counterpoint.

I don’t know if ur trolling or not but the MLB season is happening right now so the US literally only sent prospects who haven’t made the MLB and retired players. Japan halted their league to send their All-Stars lmao. Nobody in America knows anybody on that Olympic team
