1/ Having a good discussion with @dendisuhubdy, and I made the following claim about what the optimal ticksize should be for a market. Curious to hear opinions.
(No, I've never built an exchange. But I still get to have opinions!

My simpler proposal is that the optimal tick size is the one where the bid/offer spread spends some time at one tick, most of the time at 2-3 ticks and some time at 4+ ticks. Gives room to step in and improve the price without spreading orders across too many levels.
Also very sensible. As long as we're all in agreement that penny ticks on BTC with maker rebates that represent hundreds of ticks is... suboptimal.
