I get the feeling a lot of people I normally agree with are really against opening things up in the UK. Surely the point of the vaccine rollout was that we can go to restaurants and bars again, go clubbing, stop wearing masks everywhere? If not now, when?

I presume you’re double vaxed though, right? I only got my 2nd shot this week, and thought it was a bit early to be opening up. I don’t know how most young people feel about their risk, but thought more take up in younger groups would have been a better milestone for opening.

I got mine on Wednesday! But anyone under 40 got Pfizer or Moderna which are like 90% effective after one shot anyway.

This is now very outdated in the light of the data accounting for the more recent variants. This is probably a factor in the difference in mindset you mentioned in the first tweet of the thread.

Source for this? Reports I’ve seen show it to be a bit less effective in preventing transmission of new variants, but equally effective (90%+) jn preventing serious illness and death, which is what counts.

That’s from the recent report out of Israel which is the newest study I could find on it. But sample size is small and it contradicts other findings so unless there’s something more compelling I’m not worried.

I am not sure I am following the terms of comparison you are referring to, so apologies if I am misunderstanding. But see for example: https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2021/07/study-2-covid-vaccine-doses-much-more-effective-1-against-delta … "One dose of either vaccine conferred much lower protection against Delta than Alpha (30.7% and 48.7%, respectively"
