It's a different system for sure. Both produce good people. Frankly I liked having the extra year to explore other areas of interest. You really need to know what you want to do in UK by the time you sit for your A Levels. Not so much here in the US.
Yup specialising early is def weird. Eg medicine is an undergrad degree so if you want to be a doctor you essentially need to know that by age 16 so you can take the right classes to get into undergrad med school.

In the UK there is a qualification for everything. I suspect they were originally created to democratize a class based society. But it's kind of gotten silly.

In Korea they even have a stewardess major. Most of the Korean Air and Asiana stewardesses graduate from one university's stewardess program. Kids also apply to the major and not the university, so they're stuck in their track of study at age 18.pic.twitter.com/FVGSVvQo96
