If you want to work in quant finance, don't do MFE/CQF. Get a degree in math, physics, CS or EE like ~90% of existing quants.https://twitter.com/paulg/status/1416002575862804482 …

I think it’s faster because (a) you specialise much earlier in the UK, normally only studying 3-4 subjects from 16-18 eg (b) undergrad degree is focused on one subject, no minors or classes outside of your speciality.

They have a much better system. So much of US education is wasted on required filler courses. Gotta maintain adminstrative bloat somehow

US 4 yr undergrad. You apply to a PhD program. You get masters along the way, once you pass your quals. Might be one or two years. Then PhD proper -- US is a f**king shitshow. Figure 3 to 8 years. Theoretical is usually quicker. Experimental or Eng can take a long time.

Lots of American PIs hold their grad students hostage for absurd amounts of time

Wow is it really that fast? In the US I typically see 4y UG + 5-7 years PhD (includes Masters) = 9-11 years total
-
Exactly. You go right from your thesis defense to the retirement home:)

Most of the posters in this thread seem to be conflating the UK with England. Honours Degree takes 4 years in Scotland but 3 in England. Also, tuition fees are paid by Scottish government which means competition for places is much higher than in England.

Yes, yes indeed. I am guilty as charged!
