      Avoid getting degrees in subjects whose best practitioners rarely have such degrees. E.g. many mathematicians have degrees in math, but an MFA seems to be distinctly optional for writing.

      My two cents: everyone I have interviewed in the past 5 years has at least a master's degree. Undergrad degree in something quanty: Phys, Math, Eng, etc. MBAs are still in demand for flow trading, and it's far more important to have native fluency in English than specifics

      Americans just don't get PhDs because they just take too long. Even third rate ones. UK British PhDs are much, much quicker. You do not spend 7 years getting a PhD in Physics if intend to work on finance. But you might end up there.

      UK masters programs are by and large a financing mechanism for UK universities.
