Obviously there are other paths, one that springs to mind is @bennpeifert (econ) but you'll be fighting an uphill battle.

Obviously the meta advice here is "If you're 18 years old and you already know you want to work in quant finance, perhaps re-evaluate your life."

If you want to meet rich people or pre rich people what degree do you do?
-
Classics, english or philosophy to meet currently rich people (well, people with rich parents anyway). To meet pre-rich people, idk but CS/math/econ seem like decent bets.

I think quant finance is what happens when you get a degree in one of those things and don't know what else to do with your life.

What about for people that just want to learn more about quant finance, but don’t actually want to do it…

Yes, that's why I started studying mathematics part-time (minor: computer science). I read a lot myself beforehand, but really having to prove everything and pass exams makes you go deeper. I would never have looked at areas like number theory on my own.
